8 Shot journey project

For this project I had to create a sequence of 8 shots ,over the 8 shots I had to show someone getting from one destination to another. For each shot I had to think about how long the shot was going to last for, different shot angles and camera techniques.

For 8 shot journey I started with my actor walking out of the park and going home ,then suddenly realizing they have lost their wallet they go on a small quest to find it.
My shots were about 5 to 20 seconds long, and I used medium shots ,close ups and long shots. I also went by the rule of thirds(objects placed off centre are interesting to look at)and the line of action rule (never switch sides when filming e.g. don’t film from left side and then film from the right side on the next shot ,unless valid reason).

I was fairly pleased with my 8 shot journey although I had to cut short my last shot because I zoomed ,which was not allowed ,this was a silly mistake as I did not read the brief through enough .I will make sure I will read the brief thoroughly next time. Also I felt my storyboard and log sheet were slightly messy and could have been much neater .

Evaluation of radio jingles

For my three jingles I used Adobe Soundbooth to make them, one was to be a news jingle lasting 30 seconds maximum, one was to be station ident lasting roughly 10 seconds and the other was to be a show promo lasting 60 seconds maximum.

First of all I had to think about the codes and conventions of jingles .These are making sure you have music playing all the time and playing at slightly lower decibels so your voice can be heard, a clear radio voice that lightens the mood to get the audience interested and the three main types of jingles the short and snappy ones, the news jingle and station ident and the slightly longer jingle: the show promo. I had to think about these codes and conventions when making my jingles.

For my show promo I used three different tunes from songs and mixed them in with a recording. my show promo songs were ‘Beat it’ by Michael Jackson followed by , ‘Paradise city’ by guns and roses (while my recording was playing) and my end beat was from ‘In da club’ by 50 cent .This jingle went fairly well and I used different techniques such as fade so my voice became clearer although next time I would play with the effects more so that the jingle flowed more but I really liked the finishing beat to 50 cent as it closed off the jingle well.

For my news jingle I used the start of ‘Feel free’ by Kano mixed in with my recording. I started of with the beat playing then slowly faded it as my voice came in .I liked this jingle but I if I was to it again I would project my voice with more authority so it sounded more news like .

For my station ident I used three different sound effects from resource central, such as production noises, a policeman talking and thunderbolt crashes .I was fairly pleased with this jingle as I thought it showed innovation to mix together three unlikely sound effects to use .I was partially pleased with effect of my three thunderbolt sound effects as they catch the attention of the audience and my recording follows on well from it, and my recording was also a lot more assertive and sounded better.

I was slightly apprehensive at first about using the imacs as I thought they might be to technical but fortunately with the suburb guidance of Eli I soon got to grips with them and was familiar with the basic controls the next step was to get to know adobe soundbooth which was again surprisingly easy to get know and I soon got to grips again with being able to fade and change the effects of my jingles to add effects to my jingle.

Overall I was extremely pleased with how this week went and I was extremely pleased with how my jingles went and I am looking forward to doing radio again radio is definitely an area I am interested in.

EVALUATION OF PINHOLE IMAGES

This image was taken just outside the college, its my original image, again slightly over exposed so next time i would make sure i let less light in ,by perhaps sealing my box with tape. And the smudge in the corner was caused because i didn't fully submerge the picture in the developing chemicals so next time i will make sure my picture is fully submerged.

This image is the same as the one above but it is a positive image and i have changed the
contrast so it shows up clearer.

This image is the Suffolk new college bridge, the image is
over exposed so in the future i would make my
box more light tight and i would check the size of my aperture to make sure it is small enough so it lights in less light .

This image is the same as the above accept i have
changed the contrast and inverted my image into positive.

EVALUATION OF PINHOLE IMAGES

This is my original image of the outside of the college my exposure time was about one minute and the picture was slightly over exposed and next time i would reduce my exposure time .

The second image is the same image but this one has been inverted to positive and i have played with the contrast a bit.

My Pinhole camera

Recently I started a pinhole camera project! I attempted to use my extremely old biscuit tin to make a camera ,that’s true photography .First off I made my pinhole camera light tight which meant painting the inside of my tin black ,next we had to make a small hole using a drill or Stanley knife. Then we had to cover the hole with tinfoil (used as a makeshift light reflector), next a pinhole had to be made in the tinfoil which was my cameras aperture. Lastly I had to enter the dark room and insert some photographic paper, carefully ensuring I don’t expose the paper to light and making sure I putt a shutter over my aperture (pinhole). I then set off to take some pictures my exposure time varied on how dark the place was were I was taking the picture, for example: indoors my exposure time was about 20 minutes and outside my exposure time was about 30 seconds because more light would enter my camera .My first photo was black but my next three were much better as I experimented with exposure times and made sure my tin was more light tight but still if I was to do it again I would use a smaller box/tin and would make sure my camera was extremely light tight. Please check out my photos when I post them!

Aperture and exposure control

Aperture
In optics, an aperture is a hole or an opening through which light travels. In Photography this can be measured in increments called f-stops.

Exposure control
The size of the aperture and the brightness of the scene controls the amount of light that enters the camera during a period of time, and the
shutter controls the length of time that the light hits the recording surface. Equivalent exposures can be made with a larger aperture and a faster shutter speed or a corresponding smaller aperture and with the shutter speed slowed down.

Photography

This is the process, activity and art of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a sensitive medium, such as a photographic film, or an electronic sensor. Light patterns reflected or emitted from objects activate a sensitive chemical or electronic sensor during a timed exposure, usually through a photographic lens in a device known as a camera that also stores the resulting information chemically or electronically. Photography has many uses for business, science, art and pleasure.
